Waiting On God
By Freda Hanbury (Edited by Gary Amirault)
(From Andrew Murray's book "Waiting On God.")
My soul, wait you only upon God." - Psm 62:5
A God....which worketh for him that waiteth for Him." - Isa 64:4
Wait only upon God; my soul, be still,
And let your God unfold His perfect will,
You would follow Him throughout this year,
You with listening heart His voice would hear,
You would be a passive instrument
Possessed by God, and ever Spirit-sent
Upon His service sweet - then be you still,
For only this way can He in you fulfil
His heart's desire. Oh, hinder not His hand
From fashioning the vessel He has planned.
Be silent unto God, and you will know
The quiet, holy calm He does bestow
On those who wait on Him; so will you bear
His presence, and His life and light even where
The night is darkest, and your earthly days
Shall show His love, and sound His glorious praise.
And He will work with hand unfettered, free,
His high and holy purposes through you.
First on you must that hand of power be turned,
Till in His love's strong fire your dross is burned,
And you come forth a vessel for your Lord,
So frail and empty, yet, since He has poured
Into your emptiness His life, His love,
Henceforth through you the power of God shall move
And He will work for you. Stand still and see
The victories your God will gain for you;
So silent, yet so irresistible,
Your God will do the thing impossible.
Oh, question no more what you can or can't do;
You can't do anything. But He will carry through
The work where human energy had failed,
Where all your best endeavours had availed
You nothing. Then, my soul, wait and be still;
Your God shall work for you His perfect will.
If you will take no less, His best will be
Your portion now and through eternity.
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
